GEFMA 444: the certification of CAFM software

GEFMA 444 is the guideline of the industry association gefma for the certification of CAFM software products. Products are assessed against criteria catalogues for individual functional areas, including the processing of BIM data.

What is certified and what is not

The certification applies to a product and a version, not to a vendor and not to a project. It states which functional areas a system has been shown to handle, and it says nothing about whether it suits a particular organisation. For system selection it is a shortlist, not a decision.

gefma maintains the associated market overview of CAFM software in guideline GEFMA 940.

Why a data supplier should know this

Because the catalogues describe what can arrive on the receiving side. A system certified for BIM data processing reads model data in a structured way; one without this catalogue needs the data in a different form. Anyone planning a data handover clarifies this before the capture, not at import.

The number of criteria catalogues is deliberately not given here. It changes with the editions of the guideline, and a number that is wrong a year from now does not help with system selection.

Frequently asked questions

What is GEFMA 444?

The guideline of the gefma association for the certification of CAFM software products. Products are assessed against criteria catalogues for individual functional areas, including BIM data processing.

Does our CAFM system have to be certified?

No. Certification is a guide for selection, not a prerequisite for operation. It states which functional areas have been assessed, not whether the system suits your organisation.

What does this have to do with our data delivery?

The assessed catalogues show which structures the receiving system can process. This determines the form in which rooms, areas and plant are handed over.
