Sustainability in existing buildings: evidence based on measured data

Certification, shading, daylight, life cycle assessment, deconstruction and life cycle costs look like six different topics. In terms of calculation they are one: they all need a reliable picture of the building. In new construction, the design model provides this picture. In an existing building it first has to be captured, and that is our side of the matter.

What belongs to this group

The common denominator is not a sales argument but a fact of the calculation: once the geometry has been captured properly, it can be used in all six cases. Anyone who estimates it six times gets six results that do not match each other.

Where the data comes from

This service calculates with geometry: areas, heights, openings, orientation, build-ups of building elements. In a new building, the design model provides this information. In an existing building there is no such model, and that is exactly the usual obstacle.

We capture this basic data during the as-built survey anyway. The same survey that produces the floor plans and the room book also provides the values used in these calculations. No second appointment and no second data collection are needed.

  • As-built data capture – the survey this builds on
  • Scan-to-BIM – the as-built model, when calculation is to replace estimation
  • DIN 277 – the areas that go into almost every one of these calculations

These services build on the same survey. Anyone who needs one of them usually needs a second one as well.
